From the lights of Seminyak, to the forests of Ubud

Firstly, sorry that it’s been so long since my last post. The lure of coastal Bali, with it’s nice restaurants, bars and our pool have kept us completely wrapped up in our own world. The past week has disappeared beneath our feet, and I can’t believe seven days have gone by! What can I say about Seminyak? It’s teeming with beautiful people, the bars are hip and the nightlife is pumping. There is very little in the way of Balinese culture, and I can see why some people avoid areas like this. It feels like a tropical Ibiza. But, we were only here for a week, and wanted to make the most of it.

We had some amazing meals, watched some incredible sunsets on the beach, and filled our days with sun, sea and cocktails. On Friday night, we made it out to a rave at a huge nightclub in Kuta, called Sky Garden. It was so much fun, and was completely worth the horrific hangover the next day. We’d needed this break for ourselves, and felt refreshed and rejuvenated when packing our bags this morning. Would I recommend Seminyak? Yes and no. I don’t think you’d be missing out if you decided to skip it, but I think you can also have an amazing time there if you do go. If you want a good party, to watch the sunset over the beach with a cocktail in hand and the in-house DJ playing some beats, then this is the place to be.

An hours drive later and what a change of pace we have had. I’m now writing this post on our veranda in Ubud, listening to the frogs in the rice terraces and the water trickling into the nearby pond. This is going to be our base for the next week or so, and we should be getting up to a lot more adventures here. We’ve already had a stroll into town, and I love the vibe here. There’s lots of organic restaurants, incense burning in the air and green leafy streets. Ben is snoring away on the sofa and I have some planning to do, so I’ll catch you tomorrow. Ciao x
